Maestro Salonen will address the conference through a unique video interview made especially for this occasion.

Segerstam is not only head of the conducting department at one of the world's most prestigious conducting-education-institutions, he also has an astonishing, ongoing conducting career with frequent appearances with orchestras such as the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra at the Vienna State Opera, the Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam, LSO in London, not to mention all the major Scandinavian and Finnish orchestras. Professor Segerstam will share some of his inspiring views on music with us.

We’re all going to conduct the number one Danish orchestra in a unique world record-breaking attempt: ‘Most Conductors in a Live Performance´: Repertoire: Edward Elgar, Pomp and Circumstance march #1 (Land of Hope and Glory). This will take place at a concert on Wednesday, January 6th in Denmark’s newest, spellbinding concert hall located in the Danish Radio City in Copenhagen.

The following day we’ll also get to see the orchestra rehearse with Danish Conductor and music director of the Copenhagen Opera Maestro Michael Schønwandt. -
After attending the dress rehearsal a handful of the musicians from the Danish Radio Symphony Orchestra have agreed to address the conference and talk about their views of the conductor. What is it really the musicians expect/need/want from the conductor? There will also be an opportunity to engage in a dialogue with the musicians during a Q&A segment. -
An expert panel will bring Carl Nielsen and his music to life by casting new light on various aspects of his life and work:

In a time where the entertainment options are numerous and the editorial interest in promoting live (classical/jazz) music is limited, it’s of great importance to be able to skillfully capture the attention of the press in order to get your particular project promoted.

Professor of rhetoric at the University of Copenhagen Christian Koch and political reporter, former head of the journalism department at the University of Southern Denmark Troels Mylenberg will dwell on how to get your story through to the editor!
-
Spread evenly over the conference there will be a number of sessions where conference attendees get a chance to introduce pieces of (contemporary) music which they with success and delight have had the opportunity of performing themselves.

During 9-minute segments, the audience will hear a little about the piece and a lot of the piece as a teaser for future performances. There will even be a “Publisher’s Session” where some of the exhibiting publishers introduce their own stars.
The New Music Project will be masterfully directed by Maestro David Bowden who is Music Director and Conductor of the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic and the Columbus Philharmonic Chorus, the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra, and the Carmel Symphony Orchestra all in the USA. -
Time to get out of the chairs and to get the spouses involved! Instructed by renown Dancemaster Mr. Jørgen Schou Pedersen it becomes clear how the hand ornaments used for baroque dancing are directly linked to the modern beating patterns!

-
Experience a brand new leadership tool devised by the LEGO Corporation together with an expert team of psychologists and university professors.

With the world famous Danish LEGO bricks as the initiating tool you get a unique opportunity to address visions, strategies and goals, not just on your own, but with your orchestra or organization as well!
The LSP-process is being facilitated by a group of certified instructors from the Consulting Company Trivium, one of the initial LSP-creators.

The future of classical music and jazz is highly dependent on dedicated conductors to shape and guide the young future musicians into the world of live music making. Providing a professional environment for the young musicians is therefore a core activity in preserving classical music and jazz for the future. The music directors of a handful of Denmark’s top youth ensembles/choirs will engage in a vivid panel discussion.- Bertel Haarder - Danish Minister of Education
- Michael Bojesen Music Director of The Danish National Girls Choir

Both teachers come from the Sibelius Academy in Finland from where we’ve also invited the orchestra that plays for the conducting class – Kapubandi - a cornerstone in the secret of the success behind the Finnish School of Conducting.

-
In order to gently tune you into the conference mode, The University Choir Lille Muko will perform some Danish music alternating with various welcoming speeches.
-
The Royal Library was founded by King Frederik 3rd back in 1661-64. It holds a totally unique treasure of books and scores. The library was the driving force behind the newly completed, critical edition of Carl Nielsen’s entire production. We’re going there for a behind-the-scene-lecture by some of the leading musicologists in the country. We’re also going to witness the opening of a small exhibition of King Fredrik IX’s personal scores and other memorabilia.

Rector of The Royal Danish
Academy of Music Mr. Bertel Krarup and rector of The Sibelius Academy from Finland Mr. Gustav Djupsjöbacka will share thoughts about building a future for musical life in general and conductors in particular.
-
The final concert will be a never-heard-of, life-affirming constellation of musical forces. All the music directors who previously debated the musical “food chain” will now let their ensembles “do the talking”. For the first time ever the following ensembles will all appear in one and the same concert: The Danish National Girls Choir, The Copenhagen Royal Chapel Choir, The University of Southern Denmark’s Symphony Orchestra and The Tivoli Boys Guard Band.
